Winter Roundtable Meeting at the
Historical Society of Cheshire County in Keene
The winter meeting of the Monadnock Historical Societies Forum will take place at the Historical Society of Cheshire County on Thursday 26 February 2009 beginning at 9:30 a.m. This meeting was originally scheduled for 19 February.
The morning part of the meeting will be the forum's traditional roundtable discussion, continued planning for the fall collaborative exhibit and publication on education and schools, deaccessioning event possibilities, and confirm or decide where the Forum will hold its spring and fall meetings.
After our brown bag lunch, there will be an afternoon program on how to use PowerPoint software to create visual displays or slide shows. The afternoon program will begin about 1:00 p.m.
Also, HSCC's current featured exhibit, "Actors on the Early American Stage," will be on view in the Exhibit Hall.
Schools & Education Collaborative Exhibit Project
Collection Survey Deadline Approaches
The next step in our collaborative project is to have each participating organization complete a collection survey form. The form indicates the type of items you have in your collection that your organization would be willing to have on loan for the exhibit. Types of items might include different kinds of artifacts, photographs, books, and documents. The subcommittee requests this information be returned via mail, email, or at the winter Roundtable meeting on 26 February 2009 at the Historical Society of Cheshire County. The Exhibit Survey Form, along with a description for the written text, has been sent to each organization and is also available on the HSCC website.
Below are the project's timeline and deadline dates.
26 February 09 - Return survey form of artifacts, documents, and photographs for the exhibit to the subcommittee.
18 June 09 - Submission of written text and photographs for the publication.
30 October 09 - Delivery deadline of all artifacts/items that will be used in the exhibit.
20 November 09 - Tentative opening of exhibit and completion of publication.
Deaccessioning
At the fall Roundtable meeting in Harrisville, we decided to explore the possibilities of some kind of cooperative deaccessioning venture. It was decided to conduct a survey of what items might be available for deaccessioning from each organization to better gauge what type of venture might be possible. A Deaccessioning Survey Form was sent with the November newsletter and is also available on the HSCC website.
Please return the deaccessioning surveys to HSCC by or at the winter Roundtable meeting on 26 February.
