February Roundtable Meeting at the Horatio Colony House Museum

The winter meeting of the Monadnock Historical Societies Forum will meet at the Horatio Colony House Museum on Thursday February 21st beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The Horatio Colony House is a Federal style home built in 1806. It was the home of Horatio Colony, one of Keene's historic families. The old-time New England home is filled with original family furnishings that span from the 18th through the late 19th century. The museum's fabulous collections offer a gracious view of a vanishing lifestyle of culture, refinement, and travel.

On the agenda for this winter meeting will be our traditional Roundtable gathering, where attendees will have an opportunity to share with the group their needs, concerns, or what your organization has been up to during the fall and this winter; discuss and plan for our spring and fall meetings and their locations; discuss a summer Roundtable brochure; begin the planning process of our next collaborative exhibit on Education and Schools in the Monadnock Region; and discuss whether or not to try again at holding a fall meetinghouse open house. After our brown bag lunch, we will be given a wonderful tour of the Horatio Colony House Museum by its director Anita Carroll-Welden.

Directions: The Horatio Colony House Museum is located at 199 Main Street in Keene. It is next to Saint Bernard Church and across the street from the Keene post office. Free parking is in the church parking lot. The Horatio Colony House Museum phone number is: 352-0460

Education and Schools Our Next Collaborative Project

At our meeting in Troy last October, we decided to change our collaborative exhibit project to Education and Schools in the Monadnock Region. This exhibit is scheduled for the fall of 2009 and will coincide with Keene State College's 100th anniversary celebration of its founding in 1909.

A sub-committee of Roundtable members will be needed to create and organize the exhibit and publication. If you would like to be involved in this creative process, please contact Tom Haynes at 352-1895 or dired@hsccnh.org.

Hosts Needed for Our Spring and Fall Meetings

We are in need of hosts for the spring and fall meetings. The spring meeting will be on Thursday June 19th and the fall meeting will be on Thursday October 16th. If your organization would like to host one of these meetings, please contact Tom Haynes at 352-1895 or dired@hsccnh.org, or let us know at the Roundtable meeting in February.

Roundtable Summer Brochure

One idea we have discussed at previous meetings is collaborating on a summer brochure. This will be one of the topics to be discussed at the February meeting. Please bring your creative ideas for this potential project.
