Roundtable Forum

Womens Christian Temperance Union meeting in Jaffrey

The Monadnock Historical Societies Forum was established to provide an avenue for the more than 30 historically oriented organizations in the Monadnock region to pool their collective knowledge to help support the collection, preservation, and communication of local history. These meetings provide a means for roundtable members to acquire valuable information from the experiences of others on topics important to their organization.

The Roundtable meets three times a year, on the third Thursday of February, June, and October. The February meeting is held at the Historical Society of Cheshire County. The June and October meetings are hosted by different societies and gives Roundtable members an opportunity to tour the host society's facilities and collections.

For further information on the Monadnock Historical Societies Forum, please contact the Historical Society of Cheshire County's Director of Education Tom Haynes by email or at 603-352-1895.

June 2010 Open House of One Room Schoolhouses and Academies
The Monadnock Historical Societies Forum is hosting an open house of many of the remaining one room schoolhouses and academies in the region on Sunday, June 13 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to visit each site to learn what it was like to attend school during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Admission to all sites is free, with a printable Brochure and Map available as a pdf file.

This open house is part of a series of programs associated with the exhibit Nursery of Liberty: Schools and Education in the Monadnock Region. The exhibit, a collaborative effort by the Roundtable Forum, explores the evolution of schooling with artifacts, photographs, and archival material from each of the participating organizations. The exhibit is on view through July 1, 2010 at the Historical Society of Cheshire County in Keene. For further information, please contact Tom Haynes by email or at 352-1895.
