Wyman Tavern Lecture on Franklin Pierce by Dr. Peter Wallner


August 2008

In this presidential election year, the Historical Society of Cheshire County is focusing its 2008 Wyman Tavern Lecture Series on early politics in New Hampshire. The third lecture will be given by Dr. Peter Wallner, Library Director at the New Hampshire Historical Society. Dr. Wallner's presentation, "Franklin Pierce and Politics in Antebellum New Hampshire," is at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2008, at the Wyman Tavern Museum located at 339 Main Street in Keene.

Dr. Wallner is the author of the new two volume biography of Franklin Pierce: Franklin Pierce: New Hampshire's Favorite Son and Franklin Pierce: Martyr for the Union. He earned a Ph.D. in History from Penn State and for thirty years was a teacher and school administrator in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania before moving to New Hampshire.

This lecture is the third and last of the 2008 Wyman Tavern Lecture Series. Admission is free. Individuals wishing to attend should contact the Historical Society of Cheshire County at 352-1895 as seating is limited.
