Demonstration by Pastel Artist Robert Carsten at the Historical Society of Cheshire County

The community is invited to observe Robert K. Carsten, one of the foremost pastel artists in New England, in a demonstration at the Historical Society of Cheshire County. The demonstration is at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, in the Society's Exhibit Hall at 246 Main Street in Keene. This special program is in conjunction with the exhibit, The Monadnock Palette: Celebration 50 Years of Community Art. This exhibit honors the 50th anniversary of the Keene Art Association with works by current Association members depicting subjects of local history. The demonstration is free and open to the public.

Mr. Carsten is considered to be one of the finest pastel artists working in New England. He has exhibited widely and his paintings have earned numerous awards, including the Academic Artist Association Award for Pastel, The Irene Hunter Award, and the Robb Sagendorph Award, and he is sought after as a teacher and artist in residence. He received his BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and studied at the Academia of Belle Arti, Carrara, Italy, and the Art Students League of New York, where he studied with Marshal Glaser and Robert Angeloch.

The Historical Society of Cheshire County is located at 246 Main Street in Keene. The Monadnock Palette will be in place in the Exhibit Hall at the Historical Society through August 22, 2008 and may be viewed during the Society's open hours. The Historical Society is open to the public on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 am to 4 pm, Wednesday, from 9 am to 9 pm, and Saturday morning from 9 am to noon.
