"Naulakha Tour and Kipling Performance on Friday, April 17"

Historical Society Sponsors Trip to Rudyard Kipling Home in Vermont

On Friday, April 17, the Historical Society of Cheshire County is sponsoring a field trip to Naulakha, author Rudyard Kipling's home in Dummerston, VT. Built in 1892-93, the abandoned property was rescued by the Landmark Trust, USA in 1992 and is a National Historic Landmark for its shingle-style architecture. The secluded, dark-green house, which Kipling helped to design and called his ship, provided a peaceful location for his writing. Naulakha commands spectacular views of the Connecticut River valley and mountains of New Hampshire. In addition to a tour, the visit will include a performance by storyteller Jackson Gillman portraying Kipling telling his Just So Stories, his well-known children's stories first told to his daughter at Naulakha.

There will be a car pool leaving from the Historical Society, 246 Main Street, in Keene, NH, leaving at noon on Friday, April 17. The trip is limited to 20 people. The cost is $12 for HSCC members and $16 for non-members. To reserve a place on this tour, please call the Historical Society at 352-1895.
