HSCC Announces Appraisers for Antiques Appraisal Day


The Historical Society of Cheshire County is pleased to announce that Stuart Whitehurst and LaGina Austin from the Skinner auction house in Boston, MA will be on hand on Saturday, May 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to appraise antiques and collectibles.

Stuart Whitehurst is a well-known senior general appraiser with over eleven years of experience in the field of fine and decorative arts. He was instrumental in establishing Skinner as a leading source for all manner of historical documents, including books, manuscripts, letters, and autographs. Mr. Whitehurst is a Vice President and the Director of Rare Books and Manuscripts at Skinner. LaGina Austin has been a member of Skinner's American Furniture and Decorative Arts Department since 2003. Before Joining Skinner, Ms. Austin was an auction coordinator for Garth's, a prominent Midwestern auction company.

Individuals are invited to bring up to three items for appraisal on May 2. The appraisers will be prepared to evaluate objects from all major collecting areas except for coins, stamps, jewelry, and musical instruments. The cost of participating in the appraisal is $10 per item or $25 for three items. All proceeds from the event will benefit the work of the Historical Society of Cheshire County.

The appraisal will take place at the Society's headquarters at 246 Main Street, Keene, NH. Refreshments will be available, and the Society's permanent exhibit of Kingsbury toys and Cheshire County glass, pottery, and silver will be open for viewing.
