Record Group Number 50

First Town Record Book of Westmoreland, N.H.

Compiled by Alan F. Rumrill

April 1986

This record group consists of a photocopy of the first town record book of the town of Westmoreland, New Hampshire. The volume contains 565 pages and includes information dating from 1762 to 1822. This group is filed in one archive box. The photocopying was completed for the Historical Society by Muriel Robbins in March of 1986.

This first record book of Westmoreland contains important information on the operations of the town government during its earliest years. It also contains approximately 200 pages of invaluable vital statistics; many births and marriages, and a few deaths, are listed. Other items of interest include town meeting records from 1775 to 1813, a listing of tavern licenses, and a list identifying the brand marks used on livestock by Westmoreland residents.
