Record Group Number 49

Friends of the Thorne Art Gallery, 1966-1969

Compiled by Alan F. Rumrill

May 1985

This collection was donated to the Historical Society by Rosamond Putnam in 1985. The collection covers the years 1966-1969 and is organized in one general subject file. The materials are filed in one archive box.

This collection covers the first years of the Friends of the Thorne group as the Gallery was just beginning. In 1965 the Thorne Art Gallery was given to Keene State College by Mrs. Beatrix Sagendorph of Dublin in memory of her mother, Mrs. George A. Thorne of Chicago.

In 1966 the Friends of the Thorne Art Gallery were established for the purpose of involving the Monadnock Region in the activity and support of the Gallery. The first planning meeting of the Friends was on July 9, 1966. Miss Ellen Faulkner was soon made chairman of the Steering Committee of the Friends group. The materials in this group cover the years of Ellen Faulkner's chairmanship. The materials originally came from Ellen Faulkner's files.
