Chesterfield Hand Written History

This record group consists of one series entitled "Rough Draft" as the entire group is a manuscript draft of Randall's History of Chesterfield, Cheshire County, N.H. The materials cover the entire history of the town of Chesterfield, from 1736 to 1882. The materials are arranged in chapter form as Randall arranged them.

Oran E. Randall was born in Manchester in 1847. He was the son of Eleazer and Elvira (Rumrill) Randall. Oran married Maria N. Smith in April of 1871. They had one child, Florence, by 1882. Randall's history, which is enclosed herewith in manuscript form, was published in 1882 by D. Leonard of Brattleboro.

This is the only history of the town and was reprinted by the Chesterfield Historical Society in 1977. The manuscript history in this record group is in Randall's handwriting. It is nearly word for word as it appears in the published form. There are a few minor corrections, mostly syntax or spelling. The page numbers do not correspond with the published history.
