Record Group Number 28Revolutionary War Pension Claim CertificatesCompiled by Alan F. Rumrill May 1983 This group includes only one series, CLAIM CERTIFICATES, and is filed in five file folders. The materials date from the 1810s through the 1840s. The materials are arranged alphabetically by claimants name. It is unclear how these materials came into the possession of the society. Most of them are payable at Portsmouth and signed by the secretary of war. Most of the persons involved were residents of Cheshire County and nearly as many widows as actual soldiers applied. The greatest bulk of the claims date from 1818-1848. All claims include name, date, rank, and amount of pension granted. Place of residence, location where recorded, and place and date payable are usually included as well.
