Record Group Number 15StoddardCompiled by Alan F. Rumrill - Keene, New Hampshire April 1983 This group consists of three series entitled DEEDS, SUBJECT FILE, and STODDARD GLASS. The materials are filed in seven folders. The materials cover the years 1803-1984. The items are filed chronologically within each folder unless otherwise stated. Stoddard was granted in 1752 to Colonel Samson Stoddard and others under the name of Monadnock No. 7. The name was soon changed to Limerick. The town was incorporated on November 4, 1774 and the name changed to Stoddard in honor of Colonel Stoddard. John Taggart was the first settler, who arrived in 1768. The southwestern part of the town was incorporated into Sullivan in 1787. An additiotial portion was annexed to Nelson in 1835. 224 people lived in the town by 1775, 701 in 1790. A large portion of this group consists of deeds from the years 1815 to 1909. Dozens of persons are named in the deeds. There is a large group of articles on Stoddard's historic houses. Series III deals with Stoddard's glass industry of the nineteenth century.
