Rindge

This group consists of one series and is housed in two folders. The materials in the group carry the dates 1876 and 1968. The materials are filed chronologically within the individual subjects unless otherwise stated.

Rindge was granted in 1736 by the Massachusetts Colony to some inhabitants of Rowley, Massachusetts. It was named Rowley-Canada. It was regranted to Solomon Stewart and others in 1749, and they named it Monadnock No. 1. It was later changed to South Monadnock. The town was settled in 1754 by Abel and Joseph Platts, Joel and Nathaniel Russell, Ezekiel Jewett, George Hewett, and Jonathan Stanley. The town was incorporated on February 11, 1768 and given the name of Rindge. 5 people lived in the town by the time the Revolutionary War began.
