Record Group Number 12NelsonCompiled by Alan F. Rumrill - Keene, New Hampshire May 1983 This group consists of three series entitled SUBJECT FILE, NEWSPAPERS, and ECOLOGY EDUCATION PROGRAM, MUNSONVILLE SCHOOL, NELSON, N.H., 1971-1972. The group is stored in one archive box and encompasses the years 1763-1983. The materials are filed chronologically within each folder unless otherwise stated. Nelson, New Hampshire was granted in 1752 to John Hutchinson and others and known as Monadnock No. 6. The first settlers, Breed Batchellor and Nathaniel Breed, arrived in 1767. The town was incorporated on February 22, 1774 under the name of Packersfield. The name of the town was changed to Nelson in 1814 in honor of Lord Nelson. There are several small groupings within this collection which deserve mention. The first is a group of Tarbox family papers. These consist of nine deeds and one will and involve five family members: Ebenezer, Ebenezer, Jr., Mark, Ursula, and Warren. The following groupings are worthy of mention because of their quantity: Ecology Education Program, 70+ items; Government, 15 items; Newspapers, 40+ items; Apple Hill Chamber Players, 20+ items.
