A Walk to Perley Swett's Farm is back by popular demand. Perley never wandered far from his farm in Stoddard, and acquired near legendary status as the "Hermit of Taylor Pond. Author Sheila Swett Thompson documented Perley's life in her widely popular book Perley: The True Story of a New Hampshire Hermit. Past walks to Perley's farm have been enormously popular. Sheila and Alan Rumrill, HSCC's Executive Director, will team together once again to offer one last walk to Perley's farm as a fundraiser for HSCC's educational programs.

The 2.5 to 3 mile hike departs from Shinbone Shack at the end of Aten Road, off North Shore Road by Granite Lake in Stoddard at 10:00 a.m. and returns by 2:00 p.m. Suggested donations for this walk to Perley's farm are $2.00 per person or $5.00 per car. No reservations required. For further information, please contact HSCC at 352-1895 or by email.

HSCC will offer a Field Trip to the Old Constitution House in Windsor, Vermont. This former tavern was the location where delegates drafted a constitution for the newly independent Republic of Vermont in 1777. Called the "Birthplace of Vermont", the restored tavern looks as it did more than 200 years ago. An exhibit recounts the writing of the most progressive constitution of its time, which included the prohibition of slavery, establishment of universal voting rights for all males, and authorization of a public school system.

This car-pooling field trip will leave HSCC at 12:15 p.m. for the approximate one hour drive north. Additional stops may be arranged depending on who participates and schedules. Cost to visit the Old Constitution House is $2.50 per person and can be paid at the historic tavern. Reservations required. For further information or to make a reservation, please contact HSCC at 352-1895 or by email.
